Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
